Costly lapse

20/ 4/2006

SALFORD City stayed on course for promotion by picking up four points from two games over Easter.

They drew 2-2 at near neighbours Trafford on Easter Monday after beating Bacup Borough 2-1 at home on Saturday.

A sixty second lapse of concentration on Saturday prevented City from picking up maximum points from the double header.

Trafford netted twice in that time span to level the scores late on.

The scorers for City, who lie fourth in the North West Counties League first division, were Mattie Burke and Jamie Bagguley.

Burke, who scored two penalties to give City a deserved win against Trafford, rifled the ball home from 25 yards out and Bagguley netted with a free kick on the edge of the box.

City face three games in six days this week. In the league, they travel to Maine Road on Saturday, April 22, kick-off 3pm, and Curzon Ashton on Monday, April 24, kick-off 7.45pm. They then take on high flying Cammell Laird in the final of the North West Counties League Cup. The game at Skelmersdale United's new ground will kick-off at 7.45pm on Thursday, April 27.
