Double delight

15/12/2005

SALFORD City recorded a double whammy of wins this week to climb to third in the North West Counties League first division table.

They defeated rock bottom Atherton Collieries 2-0 on Tuesday and won 1-0 at mid-table Abbey Hey on Saturday.

But Tuesday's win was far from convincing.

Atherton twice hit the crossbar but Salford came out on top thanks to an individual goal from John Robinson and a sweet finish from recent signing Jamie Baguley, who is an ex-England under-16s international that was once on the books at Manchester United.

Andy McIntosh was Salford's match winning hero at Abbey.

He drilled home a free kick to reward Salford's second half dominance.

City also hit an upright via Wes Bancroft but Abbey will feel as though they deserved something from the game as they were the better side in the first half.

Salford play host to Formby on Saturday, December 17, kick-off 3pm.
