Walkden amateur’s 999 call!

WALKDEN amateur Nigel Travis was gunning for revenge at one of the country's most prestigious boxing venues as the Advertiser went to press last night, Wednesday, December 7.

The 34-year-old firefighter was taking on the Army's elite, in the form of Welsh middleweight amateur champion Colin Jones, at the Park Lane Hilton Hotel.

Travis lost to Jones on points 18 months ago but he was confident of overturning that result before setting off to London to answer a call to represent the combined 999 service boxing team in his 104th senior bout.

Travis told the Advertiser: "I can't wait to get into the ring again with Colin. It was really close last time but I'm sure I can go one better on Wednesday."

Travis, who has been a fireman based at the Moss Side Station for the past 12 years, trains with professionals Jamie Moore, Steve Foster Junior and Amir Khan at Oliver's Gym in Pendleton.
