LOCAL rivals in the Carr and Hume Eccles Sunday League were contesting places in county shield and cup competitions at the weekend.

De La Salle reached the semi-finals of the Sunday Shield with a convincing 5-2 victory over Catholic Club.

Danny Butters and Matt Williams scored the goals for the Irlam side.

After two postponements, Parkwyddn finally overcame Charlestown CYC. The winner came via the penalty spot.

In the domestic cups, Premier sides Worsley and Irlam MS had comfortable wins. They both netted six goals against fourth division opponents.

Hollins Green hit the goal trail, crushing Fuller Vale 9-0, while there were odd goal wins for Higher Broughton and Barton Town.

In the Challenge Cup, Brookfield Villa and Irlam Tiger defeated DLS Coruna and Royal Oak respectively.

And in the Premier Division, GM Salford Lads beat Tiger Moth to move out of the relegation places. Goals by Dwayne Eaton, Graham Henderson and Jamie Tyson did the damage.

Manchester Maccabi won the first division top of the table clash with Chandos to maintain their 100 per cent record.
