Another black belt at Seedley

STE Hamer proved his worth at a grading event to ensure that Seedley Shotokan Karate Club can boast another black belt among their ranks

The 33-year-old printing assistant has achieved black belt status within three years.

He was encouraged to take up the sport by partner Angela Collier - a black belt at the Langworthy Cornerstone-based club who has been studying karate for the past 14 years.

Hamer said: "It's great to reach this high standard. It's only through Angela that I initially got involved but I would encourage anyone to give it a go. It's a great sport for boosting confidence. It's a brilliant form of exercise and a means to get and keep yourself fit."

He will now assist club senseis Lee Seddon, Jack Crossley and Angela Collier in training younger members of the club when sessions are held on Wednesdays and Fridays between 7pm and 8pm.

The club's popularity continues to rise and, as a result, bigger premises are needed to accommodate the number of students.
