LATE-DEVELOPER Rosie Sheehan has set her sights on becoming Miss Universe.

A desire to change the shape of her body and get fit has resulted in the 29-year-old taking up bodybuilding.

And now the Walkden wonder will compete in Middleton on Saturday in a qualifier for the Universe competition in Germany.

Sheehan, of Sportside Avenue, decided to take up bodybuilding after deciding on a major lifestyle change and desire to get in to shape.

"I was really apprehensive when I first ventured into the gym, but it was one of the best decisions I have ever made," said Sheehan, who works out at the Body Zone Gym on Cawdor Street, Farnworth.

Luckily the gym is owned and run by Kevin Alder, also from Walkden and a bodybuilder of some note. He was able to set Rosie off on the right track and has continued to train and advise her along the way.

Thanks to a strict diet regime consisting mainly of tuna, chicken and turkey with little carbohydrates and training six days a week, she had managed to lose three stone since February whilst building an impressive physique.

In her first ever body tournament in Colchester, Sheehan finished a creditable third in her class.

Now she will take part in a qualifier for the ultimate competition, Universe, this weekend knowing to qualify would be a massive achievement in only her second event.

Alder, who owns the gym, added: "Rosie is totally dedicated and to get to the condition she is in now in such a short space of time is truly remarkable."

Alder himself will be competing in the WABBA World Championships in Spain next week with a view to qualifying for the Universe competition to be held in Germany during December.
