Eccles in danger

27/10/2005

Eccles & Salford Juniors 16
Old St Annes 26

ECCLES and Salford Juniors are firmly embroiled in a relegation battle following another narrow defeat.

Second-placed Oldham St Annes picked up the points on offer in Saturday's National Conference League Premier Division clash.

And the Roosters need to start believing in themselves and stop being overawed by big name opponents.

John McAtee touched down for the Roosters, set up a try for Alex Clemie and converted Jason Viller's four-pointer.

Viller topped the tackle count with 34 and Clemie, who will soon be leaving for Sheffield Eagles, was voted man of the match for the fourth time this season.

Eccles' A team drew 4-4 at leaders Widnes St Maries in the North West Counties League's sixth division.

Widnes conceded only their second try this season when Graham Seargent crossed.

The under 18s crashed out of the Lancashire Cup with a 24-20 defeat at Rylands.

Mark Gilligan, Jack Chapman and Shaun Jones scored their tries.
