Cross country heroes

20/10/2005

THERE were a host of local heroes in the second Salford Mets Athletics Club cross country race.

There was an excellent attendance again with more than 100 school children in one race.

The local winners were Jack Evans (St Marks Worsley), Lucy Mattherws (Christ the King), Ben Yates (Walkden High), Emma Thomas (Walkden High), Kierran Jolly (St Patricks), Cavren Woodcock (Bolton Girls), Jonathan Yates (Walkden High) and R Fordham (Canon Slade).

The local runners up were Desmond Hendrickson (Broadoak), Leah Niven (St Marks Worsley), Jack Whitehead (Walkden High), Abbie Vanden (Wentworth High), Aaron Richardson (Salford Academy), Rebecca Vanden (Wentworth High), Danny Hill (Hope High) and Jane Hayes (Moorside).

All of these athletes have a chance of lifting overall trophies after the final race on Saturday, November 5, 10am start.

Any local children wishing to take part should arrive at Cleveleys athletics track before the first race. Club officials will provide advice on how to register.

The team awards look like being well spread with St Marks Worsley, Mesnes Lea, Walkden High, St Patricks and Canon Slade all leading at least one age group.
