Ram raiders!

13/10/2005

A SPECTACULAR second half equaliser from Wes Bancroft helped Salford get over their FA Cup defeat to Farsley Celtic at the weekend and claim a league point from Tuesday's visit of Ramsbottom.

The Rams went ahead on 13 minutes when former City favourite Anthony Johnson sprung the offside trap.

City struggled to get out of the blocks, showing only glimpses of their impressive early season form.

Ashley Timms, who has been named the North West Counties League's goalkeeper of the month for September, made a great one-on-one save to thwart Liam McManus.

City drew level on 68 minutes when some determined work from Andy McIntosh led to Bancroft unleashing a superb effort into the top corner from 25 yards out.

City's FA Cup run came to an end with a 1-0 loss against a Farsley Celtic side packed with Football League experience.

Despite creating a host of good chances, City failed to break down a solid Celtic rearguard.

And Celtic came out on top thanks to a sixth minute goal from Amjad Iqbal.

City visit Colne on Saturday, October 15, and Atherton Collieries on Monday, October 17.
