Mission to retain

29/ 9/2005

PAUL Kidd is convinced that a bright future awaits Swinton Lions - providing that he can retain the services of the vast majority of his 2005 squad.

Swinton's coach said: "Going out of the play-offs by a single point at Workington on Sunday was obviously very disappointing. But we have improved in every aspect this season and we are not a million miles away from being good enough to gain promotion.

"The future is looking bright as long as we retain the majority of this year's squad and strengthen it with one or two new faces. That is what we are now focusing on."

Kidd hopes to have Rob Russell, Warren Ayres and Chris Maye available for the start of next season. Russell broke his ankle against Workington on Sunday while Ayres and Maye are currently nursing a broken leg and a dislocated knee respectively.
