Ladies offer the best chance of silverware

AT the halfway stage of the Greater Manchester Super League season, the best chance of silverware coming locally lies with Swinton Ladies.

They stand second in the six-team table but they are nine points behind leaders Oldham, who are the only team to have beaten Swinton this season.

Victory against Tyldesley on Sunday, July 24, followed by wins in Swinton's other four remaining fixtures, including their home match with Oldham on August 21, would give the Ladies team a chance of bridging that gap.

Swinton's men's side have had a disappointing summer in the first division, winning only one of their four matches. They entertain third-placed High Crompton at the Folly Club on Sunday before taking on Stockport, Rochdale and champions Oldham.

In the second division, Little Hulton will need to win their next three matches against Chadderton, Alkrington and Walkden to have any chance of title glory.

They also need table-topping Rochdale Borough to slip up along the way.

Rochdale lead second-placed Little Hulton by eight points and the two teams will square up to each other on the last day of the season.

Walkden have lost all four of their matches so far.

They have no match on Sunday but they will be hoping to do Little Hulton a favour the following week by winning at Rochdale Borough.
