James Brown is feeling good after winning a prestigious national boxing title.

The 19-year-old from Ordsall won the National Novice Featherweight under-20s bouts competition in Leeds and will receive a trophy from Olympic hero Amir Khan. James, a member of Arrow Boxing Club in Pendleton, triumphed at Knottingly Leisure Centre with a 5-0 victory over Joe Walters from Salisbury.

Russ Arrowsmith who runs Arrow Boxing Club, said: "James put in a very impressive performance because he went in to the competition after winning just 11 contests and was fighting lads who have had 20.

"Despite having half the experience of the other lads he acquitted himself really well, this will give him a big confidence boost which he needs. He has really quick hands and doesn't stop, almost like a machine so we've got high hopes for him in the future."

He will receive his trophy from Khan at the East Lancashire ABA general meeting on Tuesday, June 7.

Brown's bout was the last of the season for Arrow with 76 contests seeing 48 wins. Highlights included Liam Gee reaching the NAYBC national semi-finals and Liam Dorrian reaching the East Lancashire light welterweight final, only to be beaten by Amir Khan.
