Maye leads Russian rout

THE Lions progressed to the fourth round of the Challenge Cup by crushing a lively Moscow outfit.

Thirteen was lucky for some as man of the match Chris Maye led the way with four tries. Lions' other try scorers were Marlon Billy, two, Lee Patterson, two, Lee Marsh, Phil Joseph, Rob Russell, Stuart Oldham and Ian Watson while Marsh knocked over nine goals.

But although it was an impressive and professional performance, Swinton did not have things all of their own way. The Russian amateurs had some decent players in their ranks, notably winger Denis Korolev and hooker Roman Ovchinnikov.

Fans at a chilly Park Lane thought that Moscow had brought their own weather with them too!
