Oak win battle of Waterloo

THE Waterloo suffered their first defeat of the season in the Salford Regent Log-End League, beaten 4-3 at the Royal Oak.

Brown Cow joined them at the top of the table by beating the Union. Paul Dillon struck a nifty 15-darter but his Pendleton Legion A side lost by the odd game in seven to the club's B team.

The Wellington came from three down to pip the White Lion A in the Joseph Holts Eccles League, Derek Horton completing the comeback after Paul Gibson, George Oxton and Roy Paul had won. The Royal Oak beat the Bull 5-2 with the help of a 15-darter on the Manchester board from Kevin Williams.

The best chuck of the week, however, came from Andy Gourlay, a 13-arrow log-end slip-up in the Salford VIP League match which his Church Inn team lost against the Waggon and Horses. With the score at 3-3, Derek Rigby took the decider. The Waggon also beat the Church in the gallon contest but the losers still have a four-point advantage at the top over Dover.

Swinton Ladies lost 6-2 to Bolton in the Lancashire GMC Super League, while the men beat Chadderton 6-4, Tommy Swindells averaging 83.

In the Salford Monday League, St Boniface's Social Club beat the Ashley Brook 5-4. The Railway, Irlam, followed up their 5-4 win at home against the Norman, Dukinfield, with a 7-2 victory in the return leg on Sunday to earn a 12-6 aggrgate win in the Boddingtons Pub second round.
