CHAMPIONS Railway haven't made the best of starts to the new Irlam and Cadishead Log-End League's campaign.

Having shared the spoils in their opening match with Cadishead Labour Club, they went down 4-3 to the Royal Arms in a ding-dong affair on Monday, George Gillett taking a tense decider, his team-mate, Peter Weldhoven, raced around the Manchester board in 17 arrows.

John Atherton from Steelworks A went one better, his 16-darter helping his team to a 4-3 second division win over Cadishead Lion.

Still on the Log-End, Ian Aspinall from the Union beat Ian Pollitt (Morning Star) 2-0 in the final of the Joseph Holt's Eccles League Delegates Cup.

Gary Roberts struck a superb 13-darter on the big board in the Salford Monday 501 League. It helped League leaders Weaste Con Club beat St Boniface's Club 6-3. Alan Roberts, not related, hit a consolation maximum for the losers.

Mike Thomas took out 130 and Tony Hesford 117 as Swinton Legion beat the Lord Nelson 5-4 in the Swinton 501 League's knockout.

Paul Hawkins hit a 180 and Stuart Wheeler a 104 finish in 18-dart legs for the losers.

Peter Matthews struck a 17-darter and a team-mate Duncan Johnson a 180, but their White Lion team lost to Staff of Life B.

Steve Greenall's 14-darter highlighted the Little Hulton League's programme last week.

It came in his Walkden Legion's 5-2 second division defeat at the hands of the Shamrock. Lee Grimshaw Jnr, Bernard Kelly and Richard Higson all hit 180s as Duke Gate beat first division rivals Cuemaster 5-2.
