Union steal the honours

THE Union, who trailed the Star by one-point, are the champions of the Salford Regent Log-End League after beating the previous leaders 4-3 to steal the honours.

The gallon contest has still to be resolved because Pendleton Legion A and the Union finished joint top. They will play a decider on November 11.

The Union are also sharing top spot in the Joseph Holts Eccles League. Peter Hughes of the Bridgewater and Peter Burrows from the Ellesmere have the best individual performances so far, 19-dart legs of log-end slip-up.

John Bolton's excellent 13-dart leg of 501 was the highlight in the second division of the Swinton 501. It included a 180 but it came only by way of consolation as the Green were beaten 6-3 by Staff of Life B.

Colin Tarbuck's 180 eased the pain for the Moorside, beaten 7-1 and a set by Swinton Legion who had maximums from Tony Green and Mike Thomas and a 17-darter from Gary Roberts.

The opening night in the Salford Monday League saw St Bonifaces Social Club beat Unicorn B in a 5-4 thriller. Barry Cooke hit the first 180 of the winter but his Flemish Weaver team lost 6-3 to the Dover.

Swinton men came from 5-1 down to level at 5-5 with Chadderton in the Lancashire GMC Super League. Andy Gourlay hit a 180 and Ian Royle picked up the match award. The three other wins came from Steve Field, Mike Thomas and Andy Chase.

Little Hulton lost 6-4 against High Crompton while Swinton ladies went down 6-2 to Bolton.
