Lions ready to rock Roe's boat

SEVERAL Lions players will be out to prove a point when they face old boss Peter Roe at Park Lane.

Former Swinton coach Roe left to join Barrow during the close season but will return to his old stomping ground for the first time on Sunday.

And Lions coach Paul Kidd need not worry about motivating his troops for the clash with certain players eager to prove Roe wrong for leaving them out last season.

"There are several of this season's squad who were on the periphery last year and I'm sure they will have a few things to prove," said Kidd.

"But this game is not just about Peter Roe. It is bound to be an emotional affair, but it's important we concentrate on the job in hand and that's winning a game of rugby."

Swinton will be boosted by the return of centre Chris Maye from a bruised arm and half-back Sarfraz Patel. Mick Coates is rated at 50-50 after making a good recovery from his shoulder injury but is unlikely to be risked.

Kidd will be keen for his side to get back to winning after the Lions slipped to a 42-20 defeat at Hunslet Hawks in their last match.

• WES Rogers will undergo surgery on a piece of floating bone in his elbow next week. The second row is expected to be out for three weeks.
