Academy make light work of Featherstone

SALFORD made it three wins out of three in the Senior Academy Under-21 First Division with a 40-14 victory over Featherstone at the Willows last Friday.

But the Reds' seven-try demolition came at a cost. Mark Stevens has a suspected broken rib, and both John Clough and Andy Dobson went over on their ankles and could be a doubt for tonight's home clash with Leigh.

Against Rovers, the Reds' Tim Hartley justified his selection for this Saturday's Academy Origin squad with a well-taken try and six goals.

And there were two tries apiece for Martin Wilson and Craig McAvoy, and one each for Mark Stevens and John Clough.

Coach Steve Blakeley said: "We played well last night. It was a good team performance and it would be unfair to single people out. We stuck to the script and our front row was outstanding. Gareth Hayes, Clough, James Brown, Andy Plumber and Danny Mole worked tirelessly."
