Ex-GB star looks set to snub Lions

SWINTON Lions' coach Paul Kidd has said it is 'unlikely' former Great Britain star Bobbie Goulding will be joining the club.

Kidd had offered the 31-year-old scrum-half the chance to resurrect his career, but has admitted he doesn't hold out much hope of signing him.

"We are in exactly the same position as we were three weeks ago: Bobbie's got our number but we haven't heard anything," said Kidd. "It seems unlikely that he will be joining us now."

Kidd had ear-marked Goulding as a possible replacement for Chris Hough, but may now turn his attentions to Keighley Cougars' Oldham-based goalkicking scrum-half, Paul Ashton.

He has also stated he has signed four players from other National League clubs - but will not not reveal who they are until their contracts expire at the end of November.

One man who will certainly be joining the Lions next season is former forward Phil Cushion, who re-signed last week.

"He left the club last season due to other commitments and we missed him badly," Kidd said. "I see him coming back as a massive plus."
