Well-earned rest for Lions heroes

PETER ROE will rest several players for Swinton Lions' trip to meet Whitehaven on Sunday.

With Wigan Warriors on the horizon, Roe will rest players such as Peter Cannon and Jason Roach for the trip to Cumbria to make sure they are ready for the quarter-finals. The Lions come up against Steve McCormack's undefeated Whitehaven buoyed by last week's impressive win over local rivals Workington - but Roe has made it clear the competition is not a priority for his side.

He told us: "We have the Whitehaven game to prepare for with a stack of injuries. We're not going to win the Arriva Cup and there's no point in getting more injuries.

"So in a way I'm thankful the result is not important because it means we can rest some players with the Wigan game in mind."

  • Last week's race night raised over £1,000 for the Supporters Trust, who will also be running a coach to Whitehaven. The coach will depart from The Folly at 9.30am and will include a stop at Keswick. Price will depend on numbers, contact Steve Wild on 07932 500731.
