Supermac notches eight tries in seven matches

28/ 2/2003

HOLDERS Langworthy got over their first cup hurdle at the expense of a side who had beaten them twice this season, writes Lisa Rowbotham.

They did not start well after they conceded a penalty when their first touch of the ball was deemed to be a forward pass. St Pat's failed to produce anything and Langworthy took the lead after a few minutes with a penalty when St Pat's were penalised at the play the ball.

Langworthy's added more points when man of the match Greg McAvoy, aided by brother Kit, crashed over for his eighth try in seven games. The home side scored again early in the second half when Anthony Grosvenor broke through and also converted the try.

In quick succession Arron Wood received a Carl Mort pass from out wide and went over to give Langworthy a 20-point cushion. In the last quarter the confident Langworthy took their foot off the gas and Wigan burst in for two quick tries.

But they couldn't claw back into the game and Langworthy face Bank Quay at home in the second round.
