Club link-up to help Lions

SWINTON LIONS have unveiled ambitious plans to link up with new Summer Conference outfit Bolton-le-Moors as part of their blueprint for a new Academy set-up.

Club development officer Paul Kidd told Advertiser Sport that the Bolton side, who will kick off their campaign in April, have agreed a deal to take players on loan to ease Peter Roe's problems with squad rotation and bring on younger players. The agreement could also see players who are returning from injury playing for Bolton in order to find full match fitness.

The link-up was made possible after BARLA settled their differences with Red Hall at the start of the year - meaning previous problems with insurance and contract issues were removed. And the news can only be good for the future of Swinton Lions, Kidd told us.

"I'm going to be coaching them and we are linking up, which I think will be great news for both clubs," he said. "Obviously we can't field an Academy side at the moment, but it is definitely something we are looking to develop. It would be nice to have an Academy side in 12 months time - but a lot revolves around how the supporters react to the First Team."
