Field of dreams for Eccles youngsters

REALISE your potential through rugby - that's the message from Eccles ARLFC who have this motley crew as proof!
The club are part of the Neighbourhood Support Fund which aims to help young people in inner-cities throughout the UK to gain skills and make the best out of life.
Forging links with Little Hulton and Farnworth, Eccles developed a three-year plan for the group of 13-19 year olds which involved rugby coaching, training and social activities.
On the rugby field, the going was often tough, but despite strong competition from teams in St Helens and Wigan, they improved dramatically throughout the season and won their first game.
Off the field, four of the youngsters - Chris Shanley, Michael Berry, Alan Kelly and Marc Hayden were selected to appear on Channel 5's "Date That" show.
In the close season, the lads will take an NVQ in rugby league, gain life saving and weight-lifting certificates, along with leadership and coaching courses.
