Hornets sting to grab Reds and Lions

ROCHDALE Hornets have swooped to sign two Salford Reds and a Swinton Lion.

Former Lion Mick Nanyn, 20, and scrumhalf Ian Watson, 25, and prop forward Paul Southern, 26, from Salford reported for training at Spotland on Wednesday night.

Nanyn, a 6ft 3ins centre, said: "It was a great move for me. Coming to play in the first division was a big thing and when I spoke to Martin (Hall, the Hornets coach) I was really keen on coming. The team is strong and hopefully we can push forward into Super League."

Southern was equally happy to join Rochdale. He said: "I'm looking forward to getting stuck into the season now. It's been a long break and I'm glad to be back into it. I had a bad injury about a year ago and I've not had any consistent game time. My aim this year is to play every game and help Rochdale into Super League."

Watson agreed: "I know Martin Hall from playing for Wales in internationals and I was always impressed with him. I know quite a few of the other lads. Knowing I would be playing behind a good pack also influenced me. I'm looking forward to it very much, I can't wait to start."
