First double for Folly Lane

RL: North West Counties Two - Folly Lane 16 Heysham Atoms 8

FOLLY LANE completed their first double of the season with a fine win over Heysham.

The Swinton side started the game in a determined mood and it came as no surprise when following sustained pressure Craig Gillibrand made a superb break.

As he drew the Heysham full back he unselfishly passed to John Carew, who had an unchallenged run-in to the try line. Carew converted to give Folly a 6-0 lead.

Against the run of play, the Heysham centre went over in the corner for an unconverted try.

Folly continued to press and after 27 minutes Carew scored his and Folly's second, which he again converted to make it 12-4 at half-time.

The second half started much the same as the first with Folly testing the defence, but they stood strong until the 54th minute when 'Quiet Man' Wayne Taylor bustled over for an unconverted try.

The final points were scored when on 71 minutes the Heysham blind-side prop barged his way over for an unconverted try.

• FOLLY LADIES lost a Women' RL Association match 14-0 to a well-drilled Rochdale outfit who had two Great Britain internationals in their ranks.

Vicky Carter, 16, was the star of the show with a fine performance from second row and she was well backed up by Anne-Marie Whitehead and Rachel Back. But Rochdale were too strong for Folly.
