Nelson get eye in with Premier scalp

28/11/2002

FOOTBALL: BASSA League

NELSON caused the upset of the day in the Lowther Shield First Round after they beat Premier Division Dover Castle 5-3, writes Dave Whelan.

The First Division side were helped on their way by keeper Dave Bagshaw - who saved a penalty before goals from Bates (2), Fisher, Lister and Scott sealed their passage through to Round Two.

There was no shock for champions Priory, who saw off Kersal Celtic 5-2, and Priory Unicorn, who comfortably dispatched Blackley Rangers 4-1.

In the league, Legs of Man opened up a four-point gap on White Lion after they beat Premier Autos 4-2.

In Division One, Langworthy Lads went clear at the top with a 5-3 win over Lamb Inn. Ostrich managed to nearly double their tally of goals for the season - but found Taylors in uncompromising form, running out 10-4 victors.

Taylors move into joint second with Ashley Brook.
