Champions hand Irlam a lesson

  • Irlam MS 1 Stockport Georgians 2 - CHAMPIONS Stockport came to Irlam and showed why they had not been beaten in a long time.

Irlam, out of action for three weeks, made a sloppy start as a poor clearance gifted Dave Brocklehurst an easy opportunity to give Stockport the lead on 15 minutes.

To their credit, however, Irlam kept plugging away and 16-year-old Matty Burke equalised just beford half-time direct from a corner.

In the second half, Stockport created the clearer chances although Irlam had a goal disallowed when Nick Robinson's cross was turned in by Craig Mills.

The winner came with 15 minutes to go when Irlam's tiring defence again failed to deal with Stockport's pressure and James Bowden netted.

  • Prestwich Heys 6 Monton Amateurs 2 - CLASSY Heys roared to the top of the league after hitting Monton for six at Sandgate Road.

Mark Denham and Martin Love scored two apiece as Heys ripped into Monton during the first half.

After the break, Tim Stokes and Abid Uddin extended Heys' lead before Simon Oliver pulled two back.
