FOOTBALL: Eccles Sunday League round-up

QUEENSWAY Celtic won a close game against East Manchester side Beswick 1-0 to travel through to the second round of the Manchester County Shield.

Charlestown CYC were less fortunate, however, as they were beaten 5-2 in Gorton by Royal Oak.

In the Carr and Hume Eccles Sunday League, few fixtures survived Sunday's torrential rain and Weaste Villa's 0-0 draw with Manchester Maccabi was the only fixture played in the top two divisions.

In the Second Division, Irlam MS go third after a 2-0 home win over lowly Swinton Moorside.

Six Division Five sides braved the weather and runaway leaders Hope will be glad they did after they sank Showboat 5-2.

United Foods stay bottom after a 7-4 defeat at the hands of Temple Lodge and Dog & Partridge keep in touch with the leading pack with a 4-2 defeat of Astley.
