Eccles u21s pay price for missed chances

GOAL-SHY Eccles Under 21s paid the price for missed chances, when they crashed to a 1-0 defeat against the Manchester Publicity League, in the Greater Manchester Inter-League competition.

In Margaret Piggott Memorial Cup action, two goals from Darren Chew helped Clifton through to the First Round with a 3-2 extra time win over Queensway Celtic.

In the First Round, Charlestown CYC ran riot against Tophouse Rangers, thrashing them 13-3, while Third Division Royal Oak caused a giantkilling act over Chandos 4-1.

In the Premier Division, Finn M'Couls had a comfortable 3-0 win over bottom team Hollins Green.

First Division leaders Lightoaks were held to a 2-2 draw against Weaste Villa, while second placed M.E.L saw off Parkwyddn 3-1. Patricroft CC moved into third spot with a 2-1 win over Manchester Maccabi, while Waggon & Horses and Higher Irlam Social ended on a two all draw.

Swinton were top goalscorers in the Second Division with a 7-1 mauling over Unicorn. Woolpack shared the spoils with Bulls Head 2-2, and Walkden Cricket beat Yewtree 2-1.

Third Division Wellington gave a 7-0 thrashing to Swinton Victoria. Boathouse beat Jarbar by the odd goal in five, and Rockhouse Hotel won 3-2. Star beat Blue Star Brit'ia 2-1.

In the Fourth Division, Salford J.O.B. trounced Kings Head 5-2, Fuller Vale ran out 4-3 winners against Swinton Folly, as did White Lion over Church Pendleton, also 4-3 victors. Waterloo Social and Drop Inn shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw.

Hope are the new leaders of the Fifth Division after their 5-2 victory over Brookfield Villa. Showboat had a 4-3 win at Townhall Tavern. Poets leapfrogged Temple Lodge with an easy 7-2 win, while United Foods beat Dog & Partridge 4-3.
