Salford hammered by Hull

27/ 8/2002

SALFORD City Reds were on the wrong end of a 60-16 mauling at Hull.

Man of the match Tony Smith, who was in inspirational form, linked with his young half-back partner Richard Horne to pave the way for Sean Ryan to score.

Once Hull had breached the Salford defence the flood gates opened with Adam Maher scoring twice as Hull cruised into a 34-6 interval lead. When Steve Prescott scored his second just after the break Salford were staring a hefty defeat in the face.

In a two-minute spell, however, they scored twice through Steve Blakeley and Alan Hunte but that only sparked Hull off again and they finished up with four more tries in the last quarter.

The biggest cheer came when Tony Smith, who had had a hand in six other touchdowns, crossed the Salford line himself for a deserved touchdown.
