Lions ready for grand return home

SWINTON Lions are pulling out all the stops to make the club's return to the area a memorable occasion.

The Supporters' Trust have launched a huge publicity campaign involving 10,000 flyers and 150 posters to ensure local people know about the club's first home game in the city for 10 years.

Doncaster Dragons will provide the opposition on August 4 and a bus will be laid on for fans to travel to the game. The bus will start in Little Hulton at 1.45pm and travel down Manchester Road towards Walkden and Swinton. It will travel down Moorside Road and Worsley Road to reach the Town Centre (opposite Town Hall) at 2.25pm. The bus will wait for 10 minutes before travelling along Station Road and Bolton Road towards Moor Lane to the ground.

After the game a special karaoke night has been organised at the Folly Club to celebrate the club's grand return.

Membership for the supporters' trust has reached the 100 mark and a cheque for £15,000 will be presented before the Doncaster game. This will enable the trust to purchase a 10 per cent investment in the club and one seat on the board of directors.

• SWINTON LIONS are appealing for stewards as they prepare to come back to Salford. The club are busy preparing Moor Lane for the big game against Doncaster Dragons on August 4 - but urgently need local people to monitor crowd safety during the game. Chief Executive Tony Barrow told us: "We're desperate for half a dozen people over the age of 18 to act as stewards on Sunday games." For details contact the club on 794 6150.

• A GENERAL meeting has been called for Lions fans at the Folly Club, Station Road on July 29 at 8pm. Representatives from the club and the trust will attend.
