Win takes Academy side up to sixth place

28/ 6/2002

SALFORD City Reds Academy side have moved into sixth after a superb 38-20 win over Bradford Bulls.

The u19s side now tower above the likes of Castleford, Saints, Warrington and Widnes in the Senior Academy Championship after their win against the Bulls, which marked a triumphant return for starlet Neil Baxter. Baxter, who stated this week that his future definitely lies with the Reds, scored two tries on his return from a knee injury which has kept him out for six weeks.

Michael Platt (2), man of the match Karl Fitzpatrick (2) and Dave Llewellyn also got on the scoresheet as Salford showed that not everything is doom and gloom at the Willows at present.

The display of former Swinton Lions favourite Fitzpatrick will certainly be turning some heads on the First Team level - and the youngster is hotly tipped to make his bow in the coming games for Karl Harrison. Other players who caught the eye for the Reds were powerful French Academy international forward Julian Tousagas and Lee Marsh - who kicked five goals.

The u17s side went down to their first defeat of the Junior Academy Championship at Odsal. Mark Stevens (2) and man of the match Tony Doyle scored the tries in a 38-24 reverse. Tim Hartley added four goals for the Reds.
