NW Counties Division One: Wigan St Patrick's 12 Langworthy 20

LANGWORTHY'S First Team knew that the trip to Wigan St Patrick's would not be easy and that they would have a battle on their hands.

And the game certainly lived up to expectations. Carl Mort opened the scoring for the visitors, touching down by the posts to leave Anthony Grosvenor with a straight forward conversion.

St Pats fought back and levelled soon after, but Grosvenor's neat drop goal and Dave Miller's rampaging converted try sent the Salford side in 13-6 up at half time.

The Wiganers drew the first blood of the second half, a converted try that took them to within a point of their rivals.

But again 'Worthy fought back. Grosvenor banged over two field goals and Neil Gavaghan sprinted the length of the pitch for the match-winning touch down.

Chris Allen finished off the victory in superb style, added his own one-pointer to the scoreboard.

The Second Team played host to Southport at Rabbit Hills and although the final tally didn't represent the fact, the Merseysiders proved a spirited and disciplined outfit.

Tries from Phil Wild, Ian Jackson, Paul Adcock, Justin Johnson, Jay Carter, Arron Wood, Wayne Hopkins and Mark Jones put the homesters firmly in the driving seat. Michael Grosvenor also managed five conversions on a good day at the office.

The visitors salvaged some pride with a late drop goal to leave the final score 46-1.
