Humphries' men must get out of blocks

21/ 3/2002

SUNDAY'S home game against Keighley could provide Swinton coach Tony Humphries with his best chance to get the Lions' season out of the starting blocks.

The Gigg Lane side are rooted to the foot of the Northern Ford Premiership after nine straight defeats, but the Cougars are themselves in the bottom half of the table and in no way among the division's elite.

Lions fans will be hoping the campaign doesn't get any worse than last weekend's game at Featherstone, where they were well and truly put to the sword.

After the 64-6 defeat, a gutted Humphries said it was 'back to the drawing board' for his side.

"I just can't see any redeeming features from our performance," he said after the final hooter.
