Irlam win the battle of Salteye Park

IRLAM came out on top in the derby clash at 'home' to Willows on Saturday, taking all three points in a good spirited game.

Both sides worked hard to gain the upper hand, creating a number of chances which they failed to take advantage of.

The visitors finally took the lead when some poor marking in the Irlam defence saw Colin Eyres nip in to put his side in front.

Irlam's wide men - Matty Williams on the left flank and Chris Stott on the right - posed their side's biggest threat as they pushed forward to level matters.

The reward came on the half-hour when Tony Camilleri cracked home a free kick from the edge of the area.

As the second half opened, both sides saw chances spurned. Willows' best moves came through Alan Houghton, while Butters and Lundy looked dangerous up front for Irlam.

The home side started to turn the screw, having three efforts cleared off the line. But Willows could not quite hold out and when Williams chased down the left, his cut-back cross found Butters who shot through a crowded box to take all three points.
