Coley faces lengthy layoff

19/12/2001

SALFORD'S injury nightmare, which left Steve McCormack with the bare bones of a squad toward the tail end of last season, reared its ugly head once more this week with news that second-rower Andy Coley has been ruled out for the next four months.

The 23-year-old, who was a smash hit in Super League VI after signing from Swinton Lions, has undergone a knee reconstruction and is working his way back to fitness with a tough rehabilitation programme.

Reds coach McCormack said: "It's a big blow to lose Andy, who was outstanding for us last season. But he's shown real character to get through this and he should be fit again two or three months into the new campaign."
