Goulding dismisses transfer rumours

WITH the first pre-season game for Salford's new-look side looming on Boxing Day, the Reds have received a massive boost from skipper Bobbie Goulding.

The former Great Britain scrum half has denied that he is heading back to hometown club Widnes, insisting he is ready to play out his career at The Willows.

Goulding, who looks set to miss the match against Halifax at the New Shay after undergoing surgery on a troublesome ankle, was the club's star signing before Super League VI and became an instant favourite among the fans for his pugnacious style and leadership qualities.

And with the new management team of head coach Steve McCormack and football director Steve Simms putting together an impressive squad for the new campaign, Bobbie is keen to play a major part in what he hopes will be a revival for the Reds.

He told Advertiser Sport: "I sense good times are just around the corner and I want to play a big part in what is happening."

Coach McCormack said: "Bobbie is an integral part of my plans here and on his day he's as good as anyone in Super League.

"I've made him club captain this season and he is thriving on the responsibility.

"He does a lot of good work off the pitch, with the younger players, that people don't see and is an excellent example to the youngsters at the club."
