Three new arrivals at The Willows

13/12/2001

A WEEK of activity has seen coach Steve McCormack add two Australians and a Welshman to the Reds' squad.

As revealed in last week's Advertiser Sport, Brisbane Broncos' Mark Corvo will join brother Alex, who is the new fitness coach, at The Willows.

And countryman Greg Ebbrill, a second rower from Northern Eagles, is due to arrive in the New Year to start a 12-month contract.

A more familiar face in the shape of Ian Watson, who played for the Reds in the 1990s, and later pulled on the shirt of neighbours Swinton Lions, will also join the ranks.

The diminutive Welsh international, who started his career at amateur side Eccles, has been brought in as cover for Malcolm Alker, who still has a three game suspension to serve.

But Watson could play a vital role for the Reds over the opening weeks of the season. Steve Blakeley is recovering from a groin operation and is expected to miss pre-season, and Bobbie Goulding, who is surely one of the Reds' most important players, is still recovering from a niggling knock.
