Reds clinch ??1.75 million deal

SALFORD City Reds made rugby league history this week when they unveiled the game's largest ever single sponsorship deal.

Red City Developments - an investment company involving four individuals, including current Reds chairman John Wilkinson - have pledged to plough £1.75 million into the club over the next five years, taking the Reds' annual sponsorship income to more than £500,000.

Red City's Stephen Kirby said: "The club is a great promotional vehicle for our company. We have been greatly impressed by their professionalism and vision for the future.

"The club is working very hard to realise that vision, and with our support and that of the people of Salford, we can build a team to be proud of."

The company are also involved with the proposed new stadium at Barton.

Salford chief executive David Tarry told Advertiser Sport: "The deal is fantastic for the club and the city, as it helps secure our future, laying firm foundations for team building.

"We still have a long way to go to compete with the top clubs financially, because of their enormous gate and season ticket incomes, but we are certainly competing in the commercial stakes."

The Red City deal comes on top of current sponsorship from Cebora, whose name will continue to adorn the players' shirts, and Tetley.
