Swinton's opener is off

30/11/2001

SWINTON Lions' opening Premiership game against Oldham on Sunday has been postponed after the local authority slapped a prohibition order on the Roughyeds' new ground.

Oldhamwere forced out of Boundary Park after being unable to agree terms with landlords Oldham Athletic and plan to play their home games at Ashton United's Hurst Cross ground.

But Tameside Council have ruled the ground unfit after fire, police and local authority safety officers carried out an inspection.

Safety officers were concerned that an estimated crowd of 2,000 for Sunday's match could cause problems and they wanted more consultation involving the police, with particular emphasis on traffic and parking, and called for certain work to be done on the ground.
