Jones joins Barnsley for ??175,000

29/11/2001

ROCHDALE'S Gary Jones is joining Steve Parkin at Barnsley, for a fee of £175,000.

The Yorkshire club made an initial bid of £125,000 on Wednesday, which was turned down by the Rochdale board. But 24 hours later the bid rose by £50,000 and was accepted.

As well as the transfer fee there will also be "add-ons" for Rochdale, although at this time, we are unclear as to what they are at the moment.

Jones was free to leave Spotland for nothing at the end of the season under the Bosman ruling and he wanted to leave Spotland for Barnsley after he knew they were interested in signing him.
