Tim shapes up for toughest challenge

TRIATHLETE Tim Woods has completed an amazing rise to the top, just five years after vegging away on the couch.

The 35-year-old from Worsley decided on his drastic change in lifestyle after a trip to the doctors - and now there's no holding him back as he prepares to jet off to Denmark with the Great Britain team.

A member of the highly successful Manchester Triathlon Club, Tim is about to take on his first Ironman distance race on his international debut in Fredericia.

"It's a little bit like going into the unknown," he told Advertiser Sport.

"I feel as though I've done the training and hopefully that will stand me in good stead."

The Ironman comprises of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run, but reports from Denmark say that conditions will be good.

"The swim is in a fjord, with crystal-clear water, and the run and bike are over pretty flat terrain, which makes me feel more confident."

Tim's training has been helped by Pendlebury restaurant ISIS, in Bolton Road, who have kept him well stocked up on fresh pasta.

Eddie McGrath Cycyles in Urmston have also donated cash and provided expertise concerning Tim's racing machine.
