Salford trio jump for joy

SALFORD can now boast three national champions after the city's trampolining club swept the board in Birmingham earlier this month.

Lee Brearley, aged 21, Colleen Stopforth, aged 16, and 14-year-old Paul Noblett - who all train with the City of Salford at Devonshire Street, Higher Broughton - carried off the titles after sparkling performances at National Indoor Arena.

Olympian Brearley, who finished fifth at last year's Games in Sydney, won the over 18 mens age group and the senior mens title for the third year running.

Colleen was crowned the under 18 girls champion and Paul collected the under 15 boys title.

Other good performances came from Laura Williams (10th in u13 girls), Georgina Williams (eighth in u15 girls) and Lisa Blackburn (10th in u15 girls).

The u15 girls team also finished second in the overall team standings.

Coach June Wood told Advertiser Sport: "We are very, very proud of all of them. Lee maintained his usual high standard, and Colleen and Paul proved they are extremely talented as well."

The winning trio, plus Laura, are now training for the World Age Groups Championships in Denmark, later this month.

Brearley is also due back in Australia in August for the Goodwill Games - another chance for the lad from Eccles to shine.
