Air Miles Manchester Premier: Elton Fold 4 Monton Amateurs 2

MONTON Amateurs' First Team took part in the only game to get the go ahead in the Manchester Premier as they travelled up to Elton Fold.

The Bolton Road pitch was in excellent condition and with the Ammies fielding a strong side, they fancied at least a share of the points.

The strong wind proved a stumbling block for both teams and as early as the second minute a clearance from the visitors' defence hung in the breeze, allowing Paul Owen to nip in and put Fold ahead.

The home side added another, through John Armstrong, as they settled into a fluent pattern of play, but Monton grabbed a lifeline when Graham Bragg cut in from the right flank to fire his powerful shot across the Elton 'keeper and into the far corner.

The second half started in much the same fashion - Fold taking advantage early on as Monton's 'keeper Ellis was left stranded by a looping header by centre forward Owen - his 18th of the season.

Veteran Reuben Brown narrowed the gap once more as he collected the ball in Fold territory and waltzed round the 'keeper to tap home the Ammies' second.

Paul Cunliffe was unlucky not to equalise when his deft chip hit the Elton crossbar, but the points were sealed for the Bury side when John Price curled a free kick into the top corner to make it 4-2.
