Reds can prove their worth

28/ 2/2001

EVERYONE has written us off - but we don't care! That's the message coming from Salford boss Steve McCormack as he prepares to lead his troops into Super League VII.

The Reds meet Hull at The Willows on Sunday and if the 'experts' are to believed, Salford's interest in this year's competition will end in September against Castleford.

Some prophets of doom have even forecast relegation, but Macca - and Advertiser Sport - think otherwise!

Steve told us: "Everybody has written us off and that's fine, that's up to them. The players read the papers but they are full of confidence and just want to get going and maybe shock a few people."

With a new-look line up, Macca's men look hungrier than ever and with several promising youngsters jostling for positions, things have not looked rosier at The Willows for some time.

"We've got a tough start," said Steve, "but there are no easy matches this year and everybody has been working hard to get it right."

Meanwhile, after Salford City Reds' u19s returned from Australia this week the club have announced they could be set to join forces with Sydney City Roosters in a ground-breaking 'swap scheme.'

The deal could see Salford's full-time apprentices playing in Australia for the Roosters during the pre-season, then returning with some of their Aussie counterparts to play their regular season.

The link-up could fuel even more rumour about the future of Salford-born Great Britain and Roosters ace Adrian Morley, who has said he would consider returning to native shores at the end of his current contract.

And Advertiser Sport can exclusively reveal this week that Morley has not signed any pre-contract with Wigan as widely reported, although Warriors' chief Maurice Lindsay has visited him in Australia.
