31/ 1/2001

Swinton 32 Skirlaugh 24 (after extra time): SWINTON needed extra-time to kill off battling Skirlaugh in their rearranged Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Challenge Cup third round tie.

The National Conference side, who had led 14-12 at half-time, held the Lions 18-18 after 80 minutes but eventually ran out of steam and were beaten 32-24.

The Bulls led 12-0 early on with tries from Richard Gotts and Stephen Morrod and two Kurt Roelandts conversions.

The Lions hit back with tires from Mick Nanin and Karl Fitzpatrick and two Nanin conversions to level it at 12-12 before Roelandts put the Bulls 14-12 ahead at the break with a penalty goal.

There was only two tries in the second half, with Mick Nanyn converting his own score before Bulls' winger Phil Thacker raced in to level matters and force extra time.

It was eventually the Lions who came out on top with further tries from Alan Shea, Mike Woods and Jason Roch with one more Nanin conversion.

The Bulls only other try was scored by Jordan Precious with Colin Brown adding the goal.
