The pride of Swinton’s martial arts academy!

TWO local women have earned the ultimate martial arts accolade.
Swinton's Michelle Sherlock, aged 34, and Eccles' Jeanette Bolton, aged 32, achieved black belt status following a gruelling grading.
They first started training six years ago and they are now the pride of the Swinton Mixed Martial Arts Academy.
Academy sensei Darren Sherlock said: "Taking a grading in freestyle martial arts is a particularly hard black belt to achieve as the techniques come from many styles, not just one.
"This means that the student has to demonstrate skills in many areas.
"These many areas include striking, locks, throws, take downs, grappling and submission fighting in both competitive and defensive street styles."
Sherlock and Bolton train at the academy's new dojo on Moorside Road, Swinton.
The dojo was recently set up as a full-time martial arts centre with classes currently held in mixed martial arts and BJA judo.
