Happy RVP

RVP shot up to second spot in the Eccles Sunday League Premier Division table with an impressive 4-1 home win against Worsley.

The visitors took the lead after just two minutes of play but a 35-yarder from Matty Williams and a brace of goals from Scott Hogan gave RVP a deserved 3-1 half-time lead. The second half was a fairly even affair but a fine finish from Christian Lawlor rubber-stamped RVP’s victory as they leap-frogged Worsley in the table.

They are three points adrift of leaders Charlestown, who drew at home to Clifton at the weekend, with a game in hand.

A Liam Forrest strike gave Lightoaks Villa a 1-0 first division win against De La Salle.

But Wellington stayed top of the table following a 4-3 success against Hollins Green.

Terry Hulmes helped himself to a hat-trick of goals as Clarendon beat St Bonifaces 5-0 in the third division.

Roy Owen also hit a hat-trick as Ship whitewashed Egerton Arms 7-0 in Division Four.

In the Margaret Piggott Memorial Cup, John Cardall scored five goals in Ordsall’s 9-1 win at Swinton RBL, D Hill claimed a brace of goals as Irlam White Horse prevailed 5-1 at MEL Victoria and Stevens hit a hat-trick to inspire Manchester Maccabi to an 8-1 victory over Lamp Oil.
