Quality coaching at Walkden

WALKDEN Judo Club’s coaches are determined to make the club the biggest and best around – and they are certainly amassing enough qualifications to achieve that goal.

Kev Grannell, Carl Weatherby, John Roles and John Willoughby all passed a British Judo Council coaching course with flying colours in Southport recently. And the Manchester Road club already boasts seven dan grade instructors.

Grannell said: "The group of instructors wanted to prove that we mean business, by enrolling on the first possible date to get our coaching badges.

"It’s really important that, as instructors, we continue to learn and move with the times.

"We want to be the best club possible."

The club opened its doors on the third floor of Linnyshaw Mill, Manchester Road, just two months ago.

But, despite the club being in its infancy, Grannell insists that the club is pulling in the punters.

Grannell said: "Since opening we have averaged over 30 participants at each training session. We want to give each and every one of them the best judo coaching that is on offer."

Walkden Judo Club is open on Mondays and Wednesdays, between 7pm and 8pm for under-16s and between 8pm and 9.30pm for adults.
