Impressive medal haul in Wales

SWIMMING: A group of 12 City of Salford Club members made a big splash at the National Welsh Championships in Swansea, winning four gold, eight silver and 10 bronze medals.

Anthony Moss, aged 17, won the 100 metres freestyle final in 57.3 seconds despite starting the final in lane eight.

He also came away with two other gold medals, three silver and one bronze.

Kurtis Sandlan, aged 15, set a personal best time of 2mins 24secs in winning the 200m individual medley.

He added another gold medal and two silver to complete an impressive individual haul.

Other individual medal winners were 17-year-old Nick Ward (two silver and three bronze), 17-year-old James Hulse (one gold, one silver and two bronze) and 15-year-old John Bailey (one gold, two silver and one bronze).

The under-18s’ boys 4x50m medley relay team of Moss, Sandlan, Hulse and Bailey broke a record set by former Salford swimmers to take gold in 1min 59secs.

The other freestyle relay saw eight Salford swimmers on the podium at once, after taking silver and bronze.

Other Salford swimmers Chris Winstone, Kim Rumbelow, Becky Rumbelow, Jodie Reynolds, Matthew Hulse and Oliver Prescott further hiked up the medal total and posted at least one personal best time.

And Callum Donaldson, aged 12, reached finals and recorded respectable times despite having a serious knee injury.
